About Us
The Guidance Department of Stephen Lewis Secondary School offers a variety of services and programs.
Guidance Counsellors address questions and concerns regarding high school program planning and academic success. They provide information regarding educational alternatives and career choices. Counsellors provide students with a safe, non-judgmental opportunity to address personal and social issues.
During each year of high school, counsellors meet with students to inform them about useful study skills, careers, researching and applying for their choice of pathway after high school.
Your guidance counsellor will work with you to create a program that is tailored to meet your needs. Within the semester system you have the opportunity to develop a program that is uniquely yours. You will be able to select subjects that meet your academic interests and your educational strengths.
Students are encouraged to review their academic progress and to discuss their personal goals. Appropriate materials such as pamphlets, course directories and resources are made available.
Personal Concerns
Many students and parents consult with counsellors regarding personal concerns. Individual or small group counselling is available upon request. Counsellors also provide referrals and liaison with community social service agencies if this is needed.
Guidance Counsellors are available to meet with parents at times that are outside of normal class times. To make an appointment, contact us at 905-326-7994.
Peer Tutoring
A trained group of students is available to provide short-term tutoring to all students. This service is free and available in most subject areas. See a counsellor to get connected.
Work/Volunteer Opportunities
Check the bulletin boards and displays which hold current requests from outside agencies and businesses for students to either work in a paid position or volunteer position. It is your responsibility to copy out any phone numbers or names and make your own contact. We do not arrange interviews, nor promote/screen any of these placements.
